MOHAN MOVES TO OPPOSITION
Kabwe resident Mathew Mohan, also an ex-convict, is disappointed that the United Party for National Development (UPND) left him out as an aspiring parliamentary candidate for Kabwe Central, saying he will back the opposition in the August 13 polls, sources have said.
The sources said Mohan was sure that he would contest the Kabwe seat on the UPND ticket as he had started the preparations way in advance.
“Mohan is really disappointed that the UPND did not adopted him as an eligible contestant for the parliamentary seat,” said the source.
The source said Mohan has now started to finance the opposition parties.
The source said Mohan claims he has done a lot for the UPND from the time he was pardoned from prison in 2021 and had anticipated the party to reciprocate by adopting him as a parliamentary candidate.
Mohan, director and shareholder of Central Farmers’ Nest has swindled some Central province residents out of a K10 million he promised them as commission for facilitating the sale of a manganese dumpsite to a consortium of Chinese.
The dumpsite was jointly owned by Mohan and Shaw Fawaz and sold to a consortium of Chinses investors and the two promised some residents that they would receive a K10 million as commission so as to enable them start another life.
He also face several court cases, ranging from failure to pay rentals as well as failure to deliver building materials.
Last March Kabwe Mall Limited filed a lawsuit against Hot Sizzling Pub and Grill Limited, trading as Sekuru City, demanding payment of rental arrears exceeding K1 million.
Court documents show the dispute began with a lease signed on July 27, 2021, at a monthly rent of K30, 000, later revised to K50, 000 in 2022. A further renewal offer in January 2024 proposed K65, 515 per month.
Mohan is the main owner of Hot Sizzling Pub and Grill Ltd.
In the same month, the Zambia China Mulungushi Textiles sued Farmers’ Nest Construction Limited, a company owned by Mohan, demanding K708,030 outstanding balance for undelivered building materials.- ZWD
