TONSE Pamodzi Alliance presidential running mate and Lungu family spokesperson Makebi Zulu has returned to a rousing reception at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this afternoon, with a number of his supporters turning out to welcome him after his South Africa court appearance.
Hon. Zulu arrived at around 12:30 hours after appearing before the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein in his continued effort to fight for a dignified funeral and burial of the late former President, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
In a statement, he said: “We have returned from the Republic of South Africa, where we appeared before the Supreme Court of Appeal in connection with the repatriation matter of our late President, His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu.”
He added: “It was a solemn and deeply personal mission one carried not only by legal necessity, but by the weight of a nation’s love and the dignity owed to a man who served Zambia with devotion.”
He thanked Zambians for their support, saying: “We are profoundly grateful for your prayers, your solidarity, and the warmth extended to Mama Esther Lungu and the entire Lungu family during this most difficult season. Your intercession has been felt, and it has been a source of strength. The family remains in our hearts.”
He asked Zambians to continue holding them in prayer as they navigate this journey with grace and courage.
Meanwhile, the homecoming took a cultural turn when Mrs. Mumbi Phiri stepped forward and attempted the Ngoni/Bemba cousinship gesture of pouring powder on him in honor of Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV, who died on May 30. However, security intervened before the powder was poured.
