Lusaka man divorces wife day before anniversary

WITH the current economic status of the country where candles are not only on demand but expensive too, a man of Lusaka West has saved himself from the expense of lighting up a candle light dinner of romance by divorcing his wife a day before their 16th wedding anniversary.

Chisha Sikazwe, who went to the Matero local court with a bag filled with complaints over his wife managed to paint a terrible picture of his union as though he had never enjoyed a single day in his marriage with Sylvia Nanyangwe, 34, a business lady, whom he had four babies with.

Sikazwe made accusations towards her ranging from infidelity to witchcraft. Stating that she has a boyfriend who claims to be her big buyer at the bar she owns, and that the same man even bites her ears romantically, according to what his little son told him.

He added that she leaves the house at 10:00 hours in the morning for her business and never takes care of their children until they become sleepy at night.

And on top of that, Sikazwe told the court that they had at one point gone for prayers following the sickness of their children, and the papa had told them that their children were getting sick because of his wife’s business which is not genuine.

“The pastor told us that she had put our children and I in her business, that’s why things are not going well for me, that’s why I’m unemployed. One year two months have even passed without us having sex In the home, I no longer love her,” said Sikazwe.

But Nanyangwe denied every word her husband said. She said he is only jealous of her business because she is the one feeding the home now because he is unemployed and he doesn’t like it.

She added that Sikazwe is also controlled by his mother, who even secretly sends him transport money to go to Ndola, where she seats him down to advise him to divorce her.

“He is lying that the last time we had sex was over a year ago, we just made love a few days ago. My husband would never tell me his salary saying it never concerned me until I decided to be financially independent and start my own business. He went and got a loan under our title deed and it accumulated to over 36,000 and I removed a k26,000 which I credited from my sister to save the house and he still doesn’t want to help me pay it back,” Nanyangwe said.

She continued to say: “he got a loan using my NRC until AB bank came to get it. Even if my husband wants to do this to me.”

Nanyangwe said she is suffering with her children as most times they get sick, some become blind, deaf, lame defecate on themselves.

“And in efforts of helping my children, my husband and his mother called me a which. He once took photos of the traditional medicine I had put in a cup to give my child who had a problem in a cup and sent it to her, then she advised him that we should go on separation.”

“She sent him transport money secretly to go to Ndola, where they held a family meeting to divorce me. His family doesn’t support me. it only talks about finishing the marriage and not the children, the church advised us to sit as both families,” said Nanyangwe.

She added that she still loves her husband and was not ready to let go of him without any good reason, adding that she had stayed with him for 16 years, why would she bewitch him and their children now.

However, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga adjourned the matter for a site visit of one of the plots the couple owns today, August 21 and judgement on August 23 as the couple started arguing over the existence of the land.
