KITWE COUNCILLOR NABBED FOR OBTAINING MONEY BY FALSE PRETENCES

ITIMPI ward councillor in Chimwemwe Constituency in Kitwe has been apprehended for allegedly obtaining K25, 000 by false pretences.

Copperbelt province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident happened on January 18 and 24 this year in Garneton area Kitwe.

He said Joseph Phiri 33, a mechanic who reported that his money amounting to K25, 000 was falsely obtained by Simon Mulyata Kakoma who is the area councillor for Itimpi Ward of Chimwemwe Constituency in Kitwe

“Brief facts are that in December 2023, the complainant who is a mechanic was approached by the councillor who took his vehicle for repair.

During their conversations the councillor revealed that he had plots which ranges from K30, 000 and above for sale without mentioning the area,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said Mr Phiri said got interested but said he only had K20, 000, adding that the councillor told him to add a K5, 000 of which he agreed.

“On January 18, this year, a down payment of K20, 000 was made but he was told that he will only be shown the plot upon completion of payment. On March 28, K5, 000 was paid but he was not taken to the plot,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said Mr Phiri continued engaging the councillor but was being given excuses until he reported the matter to the police.

He Mr Kakoma was apprehended and is currently in police custody.
