KABUSWE TAKES CHILILABOMBWE ELECTION TO COURT

Former Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe has dragged the Chililabombwe parliamentary election to the Lusaka High Court, seeking to overturn Resolute Party candidate Nsofwa Kabwe Lupele’s victory.
Kabuswe, who lost the seat after polling 8,986 votes against Lupele’s 10,920, alleges the election was tainted by vote-buying, corruption, violence and a dirty campaign of character assassination.
He claims Lupele’s camp allegedly handed out between K50 and K100 to voters at Ishuko Tavern polling station and that some voters were blocked from reaching polling stations after rocks were allegedly placed on a road at Fikolongo in Chitambi Ward.
Kabuswe also alleges that Lupele and his supporters ran a campaign designed to destroy his name through accusations of theft, tribalism and nepotism.
Now the battle has moved from the ballot box to the courtroom, with Kabuswe asking the High Court to nullify the election.
Lupele’s victory stands — unless the court says otherwise.
