‘It’s not the end,’ Grant tells dropped players

CHIPOLOPOLO coach Avram Grant has said the door is not closed to players that have been dropped from the national team.

Earlier this week, Grant named a 24-member team ahead of Zambia’s participation in the 4-nations tournament set for Malawi later this month. The tournament is being used to prepare the team for the World Cup qualifiers in June.

Zambia has a date against Morocco and Tanzania in the Group E encounters for the World Cup qualifiers in June.

Grant’s team has notable absentees in Fashion Sakala, Kings Kangwa, Edward Chilufya, goalkeeper Francis Mwansa and midfielder Kelvin Kampamba.

However, the trainer has clarified that the door has not been closed to these players and they will be back into the team should they prove themselves.

“It will not be the final squad, players that are not here will come back,” he said in an interview yesterday…the national team is open for every player that proves themselves that they have the quality and the other things,” he said in an interview yesterday.

He called on those that have been given a chance to merit their inclusion.

“The players that have come for the first time you are here because you deserve a chance so take the chance and who knows, maybe you will have a place in the national team,” Grant said.

Zambia, Morocco, Tanzania and Niger are tied on three points but the Atlas Lions lead the pack having played a game less. The upcoming qualifiers are crucial for all the teams involved.

Congo Brazzavile are bottom with no point.
