Iran FM Says Tehran Has “No Trust” in the United States Amid Renewed Negotiation Pus
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has “no trust in the Americans” while addressing reporters in New Delhi during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting, warning that contradictory US messaging remains the biggest obstacle to diplomacy.
“We have no trust in the Americans. This is a fact, and this is the main obstacle in the way of any diplomatic effort,” Araghchi said, adding that Iran would only move forward if Washington shows it is “serious and committed to real negotiations.”
“The most important issue right now is the question of trust. We cannot trust the Americans at all. Everything should be defined very clearly before we can conclude a deal.” He stated.
He also accused the United States and Israel of launching attacks on Iran during ongoing diplomatic efforts, saying Tehran “resisted a very brutal war” and that what opponents “could not achieve militarily, they will not achieve at the table either.”
Araghchi further stated that Iran is trying to preserve the current “shaky” ceasefire to give diplomacy a chance, while also insisting the Strait of Hormuz should reopen to global shipping except for countries “at war with Iran.
