I am a general nurse working in government, but for the last three years I have not known true happiness. My marriage is practically dead, and my life feels like it’s collapsing around me.
It all started when a friend introduced me to a car dealer. He promised to deliver a car at order price, free of charge across the border, straight to my doorstep. Desperate to own a car, I ignored my husband’s advice to wait. I borrowed K140,000 from a well-known institution, gave the dealer K100,000, saved some for business, and handed my husband K10,000.
Months passed, but the car never came. Calls went unanswered, the dealer vanished like a ghost, and even my friend who introduced me to him lost K70,000. We reported to the police, but there were no leads. Till today, it’s as if the man never existed.
When I confessed to my husband, he told me: “You are on your own. I’ll give you back the K10,000 you gave me, but the rest is your burden.” Since then, he has ignored me completely. No intimacy, no affection, we live like siblings under one roof. Families tried to intervene, but nothing changed.
Meanwhile, the institution deducts everything from my account. I am left with as little as K200 every month. I can’t tell my husband, I can’t tell my family. I am trapped. My salary feels like it doesn’t exist, my marriage is gone, and my spirit is breaking.
