The political atmosphere in Central Province came alive on May 15, 2026, as thousands of UPND members and supporters gathered at Mulungushi University Town Campus in Kabwe during President Hakainde Hichilema’s provincial pre-processing exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

At the centre of the successful mobilisation was Central Province UPND Chairman, Hon. Mwabashike Nkulukusa, whose leadership once again demonstrated the growing confidence and support the ruling party continues to enjoy among the people.

From the early hours of the day, supporters flooded the venue in overwhelming numbers, forcing many to remain outside the ECZ designated perimeter after the required officials and 100 supporters had already been admitted. The huge turnout reflected not only party unity, but also the trust citizens have in President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership and development agenda.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Nkulukusa attributed the massive response to the impactful policies and achievements delivered by the UPND government. Among the key achievements he highlighted were the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), free education, the return of meal allowances for students, improved mining and agricultural sectors, as well as ongoing interventions in the energy sector.

Hon. Nkulukusa further praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia for decentralising the pre-processing exercise to provincial centres, describing the move as progressive and convenient for ordinary citizens who wished to participate in the democratic process.

The day also exposed the growing strength of the UPND in the province, as other candidates struggled to attract the required support. While some parties managed to meet the ECZ requirements, others faced serious mobilisation challenges, clearly showing where the people’s confidence currently stands.

The successful event has once again cemented Hon. Mwabashike Nkulukusa’s reputation as a hardworking and influential leader in Central Province, whose dedication continues to strengthen the UPND ahead of the August 13, 2026 General Elections.

As Zambia heads toward this important national event, one thing remains clear — the people of Central Province are united, energized, and ready to rally behind President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND leadership.
