HH TO DONATE HIS CAMPAIGN VEHICLE WHILE IN OPPOSITION TO MUSEUM BOARD
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says he will donate his campaign vehicle, which was being used during a critical period while he was in opposition, to the National Museums Board, were it will be a reminder of the country’s political history.
Speaking to a massive crowd of people that gathered in Kalabo, Western Province, for a community engagement and commissioning ceremony, President Hichilema narrated how the vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser with a personalised registration number H82, was instrumental in his campaigns.
He recounted how local residents guided him and his team through a shallow part of the Luanginga river so they could proceed with their journey, after being denied access to a pontoon.
“I am going to donate that vehicle to the museum because of what it was able to do, to help us cross,” he said.
President Hichilema also commissioned the Luanginga and Silanda bridges in Kalabo district.
He described the bridges as ‘great economic value assets’ that will transform connectivity, linking communities on both sides of the river and improving the movement of people, goods, and tourists.
He said the project fulfills a commitment he made to residents of Kalabo.
“I made a promise that once elected into Government, we would build these bridges. Today, that promise has been delivered,” he said.
He said that the structures also serve as a memorial to those who lost their lives attempting to cross the Luanginga in the past.
“This bridge has been built in their honor. No one should lose their life again trying to cross this river,” he said.
He reiterated Government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure nationwide, describing it as a way of repaying the trust Zambians placed in his leadership during the 2021 general elections.
