PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has secured a comfortable lead in the 2026 presidential election after the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) released official results from the first 70 constituencies.
The provisional tally places the incumbent ahead with 626,434 votes.
The early numbers signal strong momentum for the ruling party as data continues to pour into the national results centre.
His closest rival, Brian Mundubile of the NRPUP, continues to trail in second place.
Mr Mundubile had so far garnered 505,795 votes, leaving him behind the frontrunner by a margin of 120,639 votes.
The ECZ had urged the public to remain calm and patient.
Officials state that verification was ongoing and final certified results would be released systematically.
