GOVERNMENT WARNED AGAINST ONE-SIDED BUDGET ADJUSTMENTS WITHOUT CIVIL SOCIETY INVOLVEMENT

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction -CSPR- has cautioned government against unilateral budget adjustments without considering the insights and perspectives of civil society.

In the wake of the dry spell, President Hakainde Hichilema has declared the situation as a national disaster and emergency and announced that his administration will realign this year’s national budget to reallocate resources to address food security across the country.

In an interview with Phoenix News, CSPR Executive Director, Faides Tembatemba emphasized that the input of organizations such as hers is vital to ensure that the realignment effectively targets poverty reduction and addresses the needs of the most vulnerable communities.

Ms. Tembatemba explains that the role of civil society in monitoring the implementation of budgetary allocations to ensure accountability and effectiveness in addressing the root causes of poverty is crucial.
