GOVERNMENT URGES FUGITIVE MP EMMANUEL JAY JAY BANDA TO SURRENDER, DISMISSES MOTHER’S CLAIMS AS UNFOUNDED
Government has appealed to Grace Banda, the mother of fugitive Petauke Member of Parliament Emmanuel Banda, to encourage her son to surrender to authorities instead of making alarming and unfounded statements in the media. This follows Mrs. Banda’s public appeal earlier this week, where she called on government to stop detaining Mr. Banda’s sisters and friends, confiscating their phones, and requested the return of her son, claiming he was in government custody at the time of his disappearance.
Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu responded to Mrs. Banda’s remarks, labeling them as unfortunate and misdirected. He acknowledged that while it is true that Mr. Banda was in lawful custody at the time of his escape, it is incorrect to suggest that t
government is holding him elsewhere.
Mr. Mwiimbu clarified that Mr. Banda had escaped from lawful custody, leading to the arrest of the officers responsible for his detention. He emphasized that government had no involvement in the escape and urged Mrs. Banda to focus on convincing her son to turn himself in to the authorities.
