GOVERNMENT CONDEMNS KABWE VIO•LENCE, URGES PUBLIC TO MAINTAIN PEACE

Government has condemned the recent vio•lence that occurred in Kabwe District of Central Province and has called on members of the public to uphold peace and respect the rule of law.



Speaking during a press briefing, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana addressed the incident and clarified the status of Mr. Wilson Pondamali, who has been linked to the matter.



Mr. Kawana said Mr. Pondamali was acting in his personal capacity as an aspiring candidate for the Kabwe Central mayoral seat and not as a journalist.



“We want to categorically stress that Mr. Wilson Pondamali acted in his capacity as a private citizen aspiring for the Kabwe Central mayoral seat, and not as a journalist,” Mr. Kawana said.



The Permanent Secretary urged citizens to refrain from engaging in violence or actions that could threaten public order, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence.

He warned that law enforcement agencies would take firm action against anyone found engaging in unlawful conduct and said offenders would face the full force of the law.



Mr. Kawana further appealed to members of the public not to take matters into their own hands when faced with disputes or provocations.



“Let us safeguard our peace and maintain order,” he said.

He encouraged citizens to report incidents to relevant authorities so that appropriate legal action could be taken.
