FROM THE KOMBONI TO PARLIAMENT: THIS IS THE WORK OF GOD
Today, as I wake up and look at my adoption certificate for Matero Member of Parliament, my heart is overwhelmed with gratitude because my journey can only be explained by one thing – the grace and favor of God.
When I first stood as an aspiring councilor, I came as an underdog – a son of a bicycle repairer from the Komboni. To many, I was merely viewed as a joker because of my comedy career. Some laughed at my ambition, others doubted my seriousness, and many believed I would never survive politically because of my “poor” background
But history has humbled those negative critics.
Today, I stand proudly as one of the most hardworking councilors the Lusaka City Council (LCC) – and Kapwepwe Ward in particular – will never forget. Through service, consistency, accessibility, and sacrifice, we proved that leadership is not determined by where one comes from, but by the heart one carries for the people.
I remain the longest-serving Chief Whip in the history of the Lusaka City Council, having served continuously from 2021 to 2026 – not because of money, but because of leadership.
Yesterday, news about my adoption certificate spread even before I personally received it. I saw the conversations, the smiles, the raised eyebrows, and the silent questions from those wondering how “the poor man” was competing against financial heavyweights because, to them, leadership is about money.
But I simply smiled.
Because I enjoy such competitions.
I have always believed that money can buy campaigns, but it cannot buy genuine love from the people. It cannot buy trust built through years of walking with the community in both difficult and joyful moments. It cannot buy consistency. And it certainly cannot buy the bond I have built with my fellow Kombonians over the years.
As the Komboni Ambassador, my role has never been just to speak for my fellow Kombonians. My responsibility has always been to fight fearlessly for them. Their struggles are my struggles, and their victory is my victory too.
This adoption certificate is therefore not just my victory – it belongs to every young person from the Komboni who has ever been looked down upon because of poverty. It belongs to every marketeer, every unemployed youth, every vulnerable family, every struggling mother, and every resident who still believes leadership must come from among the people.
This adoption means Matero Constituency is preparing to have a TRIED, TESTED, and TRUSTED parliamentary representative because people today are looking for leadership – not boss-ship, not flamboyance, and not financial influence. They want leaders who understand their pain because they live among them.
I owe this milestone to my fellow Kombonians who believed in my leadership from the very beginning. Your faith in me kept me going even during moments of doubt, criticism, and rejection. I also sincerely thank the leadership of the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance for believing in my leadership and presenting me with this adoption certificate
This is more than politics.
This is proof that God can raise a servant leader from the Komboni and place him before nations.
No more MPs who live far from their constituencies, but leaders who live among the people. No more headteachers who have never been class teachers. No more shortcuts in leadership. No more imported MPs. No more opportunities reserved only for the privileged, but for everyone willing to serve.
The Matero classroom deserves a class monitor from within – not from the next class.
Saulos The Komboni Ambassador
