Fred M’membe takes over Tonse Alliance leadership as Lungu Endorses Tasila Lungu as M’membe’s Running Mate for the 2026 Elections
==================================
Former Chawama Member of Parliament and ex-President Edgar Lungu has confronted reality, acknowledging that his alebwelelapo agenda is as daunting as finding a needle in an ocean. Like Lazarus rising from the dead, Lungu has awakened from his unrealistic dream of ruling Zambia again. Following a two-hour phone call, Lungu has yielded to Fred M’membe’s alliance joining condition of leading Tonse Alliance and be chosen as its presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections. In return, Lungu told M’membe to select his daughter, Tasila Lungu as his running mate and Tonse vice president.
This unexpected shift has left several Tonse Alliance presidential aspirants—Emmanuel Propaganda Mwamba, Given Wanyala Lubinda, and Brian Mundubile—in disbelief. According to close sources, these loyal Lungu supporters expressed their frustration during a conference call, branding Edgar Lungu as a betrayer for sidelining their ambitions. M’membe will now try to persuade Harry Kalaba to join Tonse by promising a ministerial position should they form the government in 2026. Meanwhile, Miles Mbandu Sampa has been directed to resolve the internal confusion within the Patriotic Front (PF) and handover its leadership to Edgar Lungu, who intends to appoint Tasila Lungu as PF president.
Lungu is expected to formally welcome Fred M’membe to the Tonse Alliance via a post on his Facebook page.
