Former CNN anchor Don Lemon opened the door wide to a 2028 presidential campaign

BREAKING: Don Lemon Eyes Trump’s Job as Trump’s DOJ Tries to Silence Him

The former CNN anchor opened the door wide to a 2028 presidential campaign this week, telling the Can’t Be Censored podcast that he could do a better job running the country than Trump, and when host Travis Dhanraj pressed him on whether he genuinely meant it, Lemon didn’t hedge. “I’m being totally serious,” he said.

“People keep asking me to do it,” Lemon explained, adding, “I actually think I would be a really good president of the United States.” His pitch has a pointed logic to it: if Trump proved anything, it’s that candidates no longer need years of government experience to reach the Oval Office. The difference, Lemon says, is that he would actually listen to advisers and experts rather than act as if he already had all the answers.

The comments build on what he told Pod Save America back in March: “I could definitely run this country better than Donald Trump.” And at a London journalism summit in May, he went even further, telling Vanity Fair backstage, “I think the country needs me.”

What makes the timing remarkable is that Lemon is teasing a presidential run while the Trump administration is actively prosecuting him. He faces federal charges over his coverage of an anti-ICE protest in Minnesota, charges he has pleaded not guilty to, insisting he was acting as an independent journalist doing his job. The administration went after him as Trump walked back his conciliatory tone following public outrage over federal agents killing Alex Pretti and another American citizen in Minneapolis.

In other words, Trump’s DOJ tried to silence a journalist, and that journalist is now openly floating a campaign for Trump’s job.

Lemon acknowledged the obstacles are real, saying he’d likely run as a Democrat and that fundraising would be a challenge because he refuses to take money from big corporations. After being fired by CNN in 2023, he rebuilt his platform from scratch with The Don Lemon Show and Lemon Media Network, and he clearly has no intention of shrinking from a fight.

Trump spent years attacking Don Lemon on his worst nights and prosecuting him on his best ones. Lemon’s answer is to eye the one office that would make him Trump’s ultimate nightmare.
