Nkhata Bay Second Grade Magistrate Court has today convicted and sentenced a 31-year-old Amos Maxwell Banda to three years imprisonment for impersonating a Malawi Defense Force (MDF) soldier and impregnate two women in the process.
State prosecutor Andrew Singini, told the court that Banda falsely masqueraded as an MDF soldier of Chilumba Barracks residing at a certain lodge in Nkhata Bay, where he lured two women into having sexual intercourse with him, resulting in both becoming pregnant.
Appearing in court, Banda who hails from Chikumba Village in Traditional Authority Ngokwe in Machinga, pleaded guilty, prompting the state prosecutor to seek a deterrent sentence, arguing that such cases are becoming rampant in Nkhata Bay.
The Second Grade Magistrate Elincy Nyirongo concurred with the state and sentenced him to a three-year jail term.
