FATHER, SON JAILED FOR LIFE, AFTER KILLING MOBILE MONEY ATTENDANT

A 54 year old man and his 27 year old son have been jailed for killing a mobile money attendant.

This is according to a judgement metted on the duo by the Chipata High acourt.

According to the details, Chipata High Court Judge in-charge Mercy Makubalo found Charles Phiri, 54, and his son Joseph, 27, guilty for killing Emmanuel Nyirenda, 20, whom they abducted before withdrawing over K28,000 from his mobile phone account.

Emmanuel who was abducted by Charles and Joseph from his workplace near High Way Bakery was killed in a car and later dumped between Chipata and Katete.

It was also established that Charles and his son Joseph withdrew money using Emmanuel’s phone and agent number at Zanaco in Chipata, a transaction which was recorded on CCTV at the bank.

During investigations Joseph informed police officers that even his father Charles took part in killing Emmanuel before he was dispossed off between Katete and Chipata along the Great East Road.

Delivering judgement, High Court Judge Makubalo sentenced them to life imprisonment with hard labour.
