ECZ ASKS COURT TO DISMISS MASEBO’S ELECTION PETITION

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has asked the Lusaka High Court to dismiss with costs former lands minister Sylvia Masebo’s petition challenging the Chongwe East parliamentary election.



Meanwhile, Chongwe East MP Anita Kamanga has denied distributing gifts or benefits for the purpose of inducing voters. Masebo, who lost her seat after polling 6,798 votes against Anita Kamanga’s 16,058 votes, petitioned the Chongwe East parliamentary election, citing alleged false and defamatory statements during the campaign period.



In an answer to the petition, the Commission stated that it would put Masebo to strict proof regarding allegations that Kamanga engaged in acts of violence intimidation and threats during the election. “ECZ denies each and every allegation of fact and law contained in the petition.
