Dr. Chitalu Chilufya Voices Luapula’s Concerns to President Hichilema on MPs’ Incarceration

During the Chabuka Ba Ushi Traditional Ceremony, Hon. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, the Member of Parliament for Mansa Central Constituency, addressed President Hakainde Hichilema, conveying the concerns of the people of Luapula Province. Dr. Chilufya noted that while fourteen members initially represented the province in Parliament, two of his colleagues were now absent as they had been incarcerated for reasons he chose not to elaborate on.

“Allow me to be the bearer of the messages of the people of Luapula. Your Excellency, when we came to Parliament we were fourteen and today, I don’t have two of my colleagues because they have been incarcerated for crimes that I may not go into,” Dr. Chilufya explained.

He stated that the people of Luapula were particularly troubled by the incarceration of Hon. Chilangwa and Hon. Chitotela. He emphasized his responsibility to communicate these concerns and appealed to the President to explore possible measures, however undefined, to secure the release of the two individuals.

“Your Excellency, it’s my duty to convey the feelings of the people of Luapula so that, Your Excellency, within ways and means that I may not be able to define, the two may find favour to get back!” the Mansa Central lawmaker reiterated, adding that such an outcome would enable him to stand alongside his colleagues during the President’s future visits to Luapula Province.

Recently, in a bold move towards reshaping Zambia’s political landscape, Hon. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, outlined his vision for a political reform agenda aimed at fostering collaboration between opposition parties and the Executive. His groundbreaking approach emphasizes constructive engagement to address pressing national issues, a philosophy he demonstrated by participating in a working presidential visit to Mazabuka.
