HEALTH PS IN TENDER SCANDAL: Awards $6.8m contract to his ‘own’ company
A SCANDAL has emerged at Ministry of Health in which Permanent Secretary for Administration, Prof Christopher Simoonga, awarded a US$6.8 million contract to a company linked to Chreso University, where he serves as Vice Chancellor, to facilitate the implementation of a programme for HIV/AIDS prevention.
And sources have revealed that following the scandal, controlling officer functions have been stripped from Prof Simoonga and given to his counterpart technical services, Dr Kennedy Lishimpi.
According to a Global Fund report released on July 29, 2024, Chreso Ministries Health Programme emerged as the top bidder to spearhead a project focused on HIV/AIDS prevention for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW).
