In a plot twist that no political analyst or sensible observer could have predicted, Ibrahim Mwamba, the former Tonse Alliance youth chairman and losing independent candidate for Mwembezhi East, has decided that the best way to deal with campaign losses is to beg the very man he spent months mocking on live television.
After failing to secure adoption from his own party and subsequently losing his bid as an independent, Mwamba publically appealed directly to President Hakainde Hichilema.
His urgent request? A personal
handout from the Head of State to compensate him for damaged vehicles and a hired public address system allegedly destroyed by UPND cadres during the campaign in Shibuyunji District.
Rather than taking the standard legal route, reporting the property damage to the police or filing an official petition through the court system, Mwamba took matters into his own hands. On national television, the self-proclaimed victim opted for the ultimate political theatricality: dropping to his knees to dramatically plead his case directly to “Father of the Nation” President Hichilema.
“I know investigation should be done and those responsible arrested. I’ve not used that issue with the Police,” Mwamba admitted with remarkable frankness, apparently deciding that police procedure is far too slow compared to a public spectacle.
Mwamba went on to explain that despite being “almost be killed,” his appeal isn’t about legal justice; it’s strictly a “humanitarian” request. After daily insults, fiery campaign rhetoric, and ceaseless mockery aimed at Hichilema, Mwamba now expects the President to open his pockets and fix his broken speakers.
The losing candidate made sure to emphasize his deep, newfound devotion to national harmony. Offering a masterclass in swift political transformations, Mwamba declared that he remains fully committed to peace and national unity, claiming he stems from a community that naturally values “one people, one family and one zambia.”
Mwamba confirmed he has officially written to the President’s office to see how best the State can assist him in recovering from his political and personal “scars.”
Whether the President’s response will involve a checkbook or simply a copy of the Zambian Police reporting procedures remains to be seen.
