COURT GRANTS DIVORCE TO MAN AFTER TESTIMONY OF WIFE’S VIOLENCE

Byta FM Zambia Court Beat Journalist reports that the Mazabuka Local Court has granted a divorce to Royd Nawa, a 54-year-old man from Mazabuka’s Makalanguzu area, from his wife Gift Nanyangwe, 43, after being married since 1993.

Nawa testified that his wife’s violent behavior and disputes have disrupted their matrimonial home.

He shared with the court that their marital issues began in 2006 when Nanyangwe accused him of infidelity.

Nawa recounted an incident where, during an argument, his now ex-wife struck him with a metal cylinder used for lighting a brazier, causing significant bleeding.

Despite Nanyangwe’s accusations, Nawa stated that she has not provided proof of his alleged affair, even after confronting the supposed informer, who claimed to have been intoxicated at the time of the accusation.

Expressing exhaustion from Nanyangwe’s aggressive conduct, Nawa noted their unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation, mentioning an occasion where he was detained for three days following a domestic dispute.

Contrarily, Nanyangwe refuted claims of violence, acknowledging only one physical altercation earlier in the month.

She opposed the divorce, advocating for the preservation of their marriage for the sake of their children.

However, Magistrate Reagent Zandu ruled in favor of the divorce, decreeing the sale of shared assets, including their home, with equal distribution of the proceeds.

Additionally, Nawa was ordered to provide Nanyangwe with a monthly allowance of K500 for two years as part of the settlement and K2,000 for transportation to her village.
