HUNGER STRIKES SIMAMVWA WARD AS RESIDENTS TURN TO WILD FRUITS

In Choma District’s Simamvwa Ward, the aftermath of a failed farming season has led to severe food shortages.

Locals have been compelled to rely on wild fruits, with the Manego fruit becoming a staple for many.

A resident of Pangwe Village, Owen Matepeta, shared with Byta FM Zambia News that the scarcity of food has forced families to subsist on a single basic meal daily, often just the wild fruit for breakfast.

He adds that the situation is exacerbated by water scarcity, preventing the cultivation of backyard gardens and posing challenges for livestock care.

Matepeta has urgently requested the distribution of relief food and the installation of community boreholes to address the water crisis.

Another Local, Cephas Muleya, expressed concerns over the children’s nutrition, as they now forage for food instead of attending school.
