CLEANING UP AN AFFAIR
….CAZ boss Lawrence Makumbi face-off Nemchem CEO Toni Burratto in marriage interference drama

A SENSATIONAL legal battle is brewing in Lusaka’s local courts, shifting a bitter, years-long industrial rivalry into the deeply personal arena of marital fidelity.

Cleaners Association of Zambia (CAZ) President Lawrence Makumbi had launched a civil lawsuit against Nemchem International Limited chief executive officer Toni Burratto, alleging that the corporate executive interfered in his marriage.

According to the lawsuit, filed under case number 1435/26 at the Chilenje Local Court, marks an explosive new chapter between two of the most prominent figures in Zambia’s professional cleaning sector.

Mr Burratto, a resident of Lusaka’s upscale Chudleigh area, was officially served with the court summons on September 29, 2026.

He was expected to step away from his corporate office and into the local court dock on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, to answer the explosive claims.

Mr Burratto previously dragged Mr Makumbi to the Lusaka Magistrates Court on multiple counts of criminal libel and defamation.

Those cases were ultimately discharged or dismissed after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) denied consent for private prosecution.

However, this latest writ dumps industry politics at the door.

By suing Mr Burratto specifically for marriage interference in a local court—the traditional legal venue for addressing matrimonial disputes and third-party disruptions in Zambia—Mr Makumbi was signaling that the corporate gloves were entirely off.

While local courts regularly handle grievances of marriage interference, the high-profile nature of the litigants ensures that Case 1435/26 will be anything but routine.

When court convenes on October 6, the public will find out whether this case reveal sordid personal secrets or if it is simply a continuation of a relentless corporate blood feud by other means.

Mr Burratto must now prepare his defense against an allegation that threatens to wash the dirty linen of Zambia’s cleaning tycoons in the brightest public glare.
