Bwalya Calls on Zambia Police to Boost Security for ECZ Officials

By News Trackers Reporter

Following the scenes that characterized today’s Presidential nominations conducted by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), United Party for National Development (UPND) member Lengwe Cornelius Bwalya has called on the Zambia Police Service to consider increasing security details for ECZ officials.

“It is very regrettable to see what the nation witnessed today with some Presidential candidates who were disqualified for one reason or the other,” Mr Bwalya said.

Mr Bwalya further said it is important for the Zambia Police Service to consider beefing up security for ECZ Chairperson Mrs Mwangala Zaloumis and the entire ECZ team attending to Presidential candidates.

“Clearly tempers and tensions are high among some of our Presidential aspirants and their supporters in instances where they find themselves not qualified to file their nomination. For the sake of maintaining order and protecting the integrity of the process, ECZ officials must be safeguarded as they carry out their constitutional mandate,” he added.

He urged all political players and supporters to remain calm and use laid-down legal channels to address any grievances arising from the nomination process.
