BISHOP MASUPA WARNS THE CLERGY AGAINST PARTISAN POLITICS AND TAKING SIDES

Independent Churches of Zambia-ICOZ president Bishop David Masupa has counselled the clergy in the country to uphold the sacred principles of religious autonomy and political neutrality as they comment on national matters.

Bishop Masupa observes that some clergy have recently taken a partisan stance by supporting either the ruling or the opposition politicians against the principle of safeguarding the integrity of both the church and the state.

Bishop Masupa tells Phoenix News that the primary focus of the church in the country should be on spiritual duties rather than engaging in one-sided political discourse.

He says as Zambia prepares for another general election in 2026, the church must maintain a delicate balance between its duty and politics while ensuring that both operate independently to fulfill respective roles in society.
