BISHOP IMAKANDO’S SILENCE ON BAD GOVERNANCE
Bishop Joe Imakando, General Overseer of Bread of Life Church International, was once a vocal critic of the Patriotic Front (PF) government.
He condemned PF for party cadre for alleged violence, abuse of human rights and freedoms, and corruption, earning a reputation as a prophetic and principled voice in society.
However, since the PF left power and the United Party for National Development (UPND) took over, Bishop Imakando’s public stance appears to have changed.
Despite reports of tribalism, high cost of living, nominations violence, constitutional breaches, corruption, enactment of bad laws, and abuse of human rights under the UPND administration, he has remained conspicuously silent.
This silence has led many citizens to question his motives for criticizing PF so forcefully if he is unwilling to hold the current government to the same moral and ethical standards.
Bishop Imakando is not alone in facing such scrutiny. Other prominent clergy who were outspoken during the PF era are now being criticized for their lack of response to similar issues under UPND.
This perceived inconsistency raises concerns about the role and independence of the church in holding all governments accountable, regardless of which party is in power.
