A Call for Political Reconciliation and Healing in Zambia
A Call for Political Reconciliation and Healing in Zambia
I, Stanley Mhango, a Governance and Elections Expert, issue this statement to appeal for unity and peace in our beloved country. The current political tension, if left unchecked, threatens to undermine the peace and unity that Zambia has enjoyed for over 60 years.
We urge our political leaders, from both the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) and opposition parties, to introspect and recognize the true enemy: the exploitation of our resources by white monopoly capitalists, which fuels tribalism and hate speech.
To address this, we call for:
– A consensus on a constitution that reflects our national principles and values
– Strengthening institutions of governance and separation of powers
– The Church and Civil Society organizations to provide guidance, checks, and balances without taking political sides
– Reconciliation between President Hakainde Hichilema and former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, and between the Church and the ruling party UPND
We appeal to the Church to take a bold, reconciliatory stance, recognizing its prophetic role in guiding the nation. Zambia’s future is too precious to be left solely to politicians.
Let us work together to build a united, peaceful, and prosperous Zambia for all.
