In a devastating turn of events, Rebecca Siwale, the Vice President and Head of Digital Services at FLSmidth Inc., and her husband Stanley, have tragically passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah. According to reports, the Zambian couple died from gunshot wounds in their home, though the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear as authorities continue their investigation.
Rebecca Siwale, a highly respected figure in the mining industry, had an impressive career that spanned over two decades. Growing up in a mining town on the Copperbelt in Zambia, she was exposed to the industry from a young age and developed a deep passion for its challenges and complexities. As one of the few female metallurgists in the field, Rebecca faced the daunting task of proving her worth, but she persevered and became a role model and mentor to many young women entering the industry.
Throughout her career, Rebecca Siwale was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the mining community. She was named one of the “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” by Women In Mining – UK, and was widely respected for her commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and innovation in the industry.
Alongside her professional accomplishments, Rebecca’s husband, Stanley Siwale, was a dedicated academic and researcher. A graduate of Mpelembe Secondary School in Kitwe, Stanley went on to earn a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University, where he was also a doctoral candidate in Wireless Communications. He further served as an Assistant Dean at the Copperbelt University in Zambia from 2005 to 2007.
The Zambian Mission says they are aware of the incident and are awaiting police investigation.
