MUNDUBILE AND MAKEBI ZULU FORMALLY CHARGED WITH SEDITIOUS PRACTICES
By ZR Reporter
The Zambia Police Service has formally arrested and charged former Minister Brian Mundubile and lawyer Makebi Zulu with the offence of seditious practices.
According to a statement issued by Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Timothy Malumo on Friday, September 11, 2026, the two were formally arrested and jointly charged at Kabwe Central Police Station around 11:45 hours.
Police said the two have been charged with seditious practices, contrary to Section 57 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Following their formal arrest and charging, Mundubile and Zulu were returned to Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility, where they are being held pending further police procedures and their appearance before court.
The development comes amid heightened attention surrounding the detention of the two opposition figures and concerns over their access to legal counsel.
Earlier, the Zambia Correctional Service denied allegations that lawyers representing Mundubile and Zulu had been denied access to their clients, saying all visits to correctional facilities are subject to standard identification and security procedures.
The Correctional Service maintained that lawyers who met the required procedures were allowed to proceed, while those who lacked the necessary documentation were asked to return with the required documents.
Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that the matter is handled fairly, professionally and in accordance with the laws of Zambia.
Mundubile and Zulu are expected to appear before court as police proceed with further legal procedures.
As Mundubile and Zulu face the legal process, one big question now hangs over the case: how will this matter ultimately end, and what will its outcome mean for Zambia’s political and legal landscape?
