NKOMBO REJECTS BILL 7 CLAIMS, SAYS PARLIAMENTARY RECORDS CLEAR HIS NAME
Former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Garry Nkombo has dismissed allegations surrounding his vote on Bill 7, insisting that official parliamentary records show he voted in support of the Bill.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms under the title “Fact Check #2: False Bill 7 Allegations,” Nkombo said he voted “Yes” following parliamentary debate and his party’s position.
According to the Mazabuka Central aspiring Member of Parliament, the official record of proceedings, as confirmed by **Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti**, reflects that he supported the Bill.
“I voted YES for Bill 7, following debates and a party position. The vote is confirmed on record by Speaker Nelly Mutti,” Nkombo stated.
He, however, claimed that despite the official record, he and eight other Members of Parliament were later falsely accused of having voted against the Bill.
Nkombo cited Hon. Kasauta, who is now the UPND parliamentary candidate for Bweengwa Constituency in the 2026 General Elections, as another lawmaker whom he says faced similar allegations.
“Yet later, nine of us were falsely accused of voting NO. Among us, for example, Hon. Kasauta, now UPND’s own 2026 candidate for Bweengwa. Same story. Different treatment,” he said.
The former minister maintained that throughout the debates on both Bill 10 and Bill 7, he acted in what he believed to be the best interests of the people of Mazabuka.
“On Bill 10 and Bill 7 alike, I stood and represented my people, the people of Mazabuka as their MP,” he added.
The statement comes as political parties continue revisiting previous parliamentary decisions as part of their campaigns ahead of the 13 August General Elections, with constitutional amendments and legislative records remaining among the issues featuring prominently in public debate.
