After Sata’s death, PF members wanted to go the difficult direction, Scott stood his ground, says President Hichilema
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says if one did not understand the late former Vice-President Dr Guy Scott, would think he was, “a little bit naughty and disrespectful”.
And President Hichilema says President Sata’s succession wrangles were frightening and intense.
Speaking during a funeral service for late former Vice-President Dr. Scott, the Head of State expressed his gratitude to Guy for standing his ground when many in PF wanted to go the “difficult direction”.
“When President Sata died, the uncertainties that surrounded what this Country would be, and the internal issues within PF, were actually heavier than the issues outside of the PF and that’s a fact.
“And the competition for who succeeds President Sata, who keeps the Country together, was extremely intense. In fact it was frightening inside the party PF, inside the PF government cabinet,” President Hichilema says.
He says Dr. Scott provided leadership amid a challenging moment.
“And Guy provided leadership and I think the nation sometimes should reflect on such critical moments and say, who helped us walk through that difficult situation.
“And Guy was there. Encouraged by a small number of people within the PF because a number of people in the PF wanted to go the difficult direction and Guy, clear and true to what he was, stood his ground. We thank this Guy here, on behalf of 21 million Zambians,” Hichilema remarks.
He say the former Vice-President chose duty over ambition.
He says Dr. Scott was a special human being.
“You needed to understand that he was a special human being. Sometimes he came to you as being a little bit naughty and disrespectful;
“Actually it was his level of intellect that made him behave like that, sometimes but when you looked inside you would understand what he wanted to do at that particular moment. I am one of those that benefited from that sort of wit, if you like,” President Hakainde Hichilema says.
