Court Allows for Miles Sampa to Campaign for President Hichilema While Issuing Bench Warrant for Binwell Mpundu
●Lusaka Principal Magistrate Webster Milumbe adjourns the case of former Matero MP, Miles Sampa until after the presidential, parliamentary and Local Government elections. Miles Sampa is no longer a candidate but he is campaigning for President Hakainde Hichilema.
● Newly appointed High Court Judge Silvia Munyina has rejected the application by Christian Democratic Party president Dr. Dan Pule to adjourn the criminal case to attend to national political campaigns where he is a presidential candidate.
●The Lusaka Subordinate Court denied bail to former Zambian intelligence chief and Liberal Democrats Party Presidential Candidate, Xavier Chungu after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Gilbert Phiri, issued a formal certificate objecting to his release.Chief Resident Magistrate Nthandose Chabala ruled that the court lacked the legal discretion to grant bail once the DPP issued a certificate of denial under Section 123 of the Criminal Procedure Code
●Lusaka Magistrate Webster Milumbe has issued a Bench Warrant for the former Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu returnable on July 20, 2026.
This is in a matter in which Mr Mpundu is charged with seditious practice.
Mr Mpundu failed to appear in court but instead sent his surety to ask for an adjournment.
He is said to have failed to come to court after his vehicle suffered a breakdown in Luapula province and that he did not have money to have it repaired and that he did not have transport money to Lusaka.
