POLICE RAID COPPERBELT RADIO STATION OVER NOISE COMPLAINT

POLICE RAID COPPERBELT RADIO STATION OVER NOISE COMPLAINT.

By Festus Ivwananji Sinkala

Zambia Police Service officers stormed a Copperbelt radio station late last night following allegations that the station was polluting noise.

The incident, which occurred on July 7, 2026 between 23:15 hours and 23:30 hours, was captured in a live video broadcast on the Konkola Radio Official Facebook page.

In the footage, a female media personality holding a Sun FM microphone identified herself as Ms. Mervis Kalumba Kasonde, who attempted to interview one of the officers but was denied and accused of being drunk.

A male staff member, alleged to be a supervisor at the station, accused the officers of being impolite in the way they approached the matter.

During the live broadcast, voices could be heard urging the reporters to “go live and make news out of this.”

Both the police and the station are yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm whether any charges have been laid against the station or its staff.

The matter is still developing, though the live video has since been deleted from the station page.
