HH URGES MKUSHI VOTERS TO REJECT ‘BACKWARD MOVEMENT’
President Hakainde Hichilema has urged the people of Mkushi District to support the UPND in the August elections, saying the country should not return to leaders who allegedly mistreated citizens while in office.
Addressing a public meeting in Mkushi, President Hichilema thanked residents for attending the rally and pledged continued development through infrastructure projects and improved public services.
He said feeder and urban roads remained a priority, adding that the acquisition of yellow machines using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) would accelerate road construction across the district.
The President warned voters against returning former leaders to power, saying, “Akabwelela kalalya,” a local saying he explained as a reminder not to go back to those who had taken citizens for granted.
He further declared, “there is no backward moving but forward forever,” while assuring residents that government had listened to their concerns.
President Hichilema said Mkushi had the potential to become an economic hub where citizens were treated with dignity and respect.
He also accused the previous administration’s political cadres of intimidating marketeers, stating, “their cadres used to beat women in markets,” and added that such conduct was unacceptable under the UPND.
The Head of State urged voters to support his party in the upcoming polls, saying, “don’t look back fellow citizens,” and “come August, vote for us so that this journey can continue bearing the positive gains made so far.”
