GOVT COMPLETES EIGHT ROADS UNDER LUSAKA URBAN ROADS UPGRADE PROJECT

Government has completed the construction of eight roads measuring more than 11 kilometres under Lot 3 of the Lusaka Urban Roads Project, marking significant progress in efforts to improve road infrastructure and ease traffic congestion in the capital.

According to a statement issued by Lusaka City Council (LCC) Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba, the completed roads are among the 16 earmarked for rehabilitation and upgrading to bituminous standard under the project.

Ms Mwamba said the Government had also begun installing road furniture, including road signs and other safety features, on the completed roads in readiness for their commissioning and full operational use.

“The Government has completed the construction of 8 roads, totaling more than 11 km, out of the 16 roads earmarked for rehabilitation and upgrading to bituminous standard under Lot 3 of the Lusaka Urban Roads Project,” she said.

She explained that the completed roads included Lady Diana Road, Fred Joe Road, Chila Road, Gizenga Road, Khola-Chabisa Road, and Mahopo Roads 1, 2 and 3.

“The Government has also commenced the installation of road furniture, such as road signs and other safety features, on the completed roads in preparation for their full operational use,” Ms Mwamba said.

She added that the works were being undertaken by Scirocco Enterprises Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through the Lusaka City Council.

“They form part of the Government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion in Lusaka,” she said.

Ms Mwamba further disclosed that construction was continuing on Serval Street, New Kasama Road and the Sable Road Extension–Alick Nkhata Road, while works on Heart Hospital Road, Chunga Road, Ibex Hill Road and Chipopolo Road had not yet commenced.

She added that works on UNZA Road had been suspended to facilitate the upgrading of the sewerage system in the area.

She said a joint team of engineers from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Lusaka City Council and the project consultant had recently inspected the project to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, contractual obligations and quality standards.

“A team of engineers conducted an inspection of the project to monitor progress and ensure that all works are being executed in accordance with prescribed engineering specifications, contractual obligations and quality standards,” Ms Mwamba said.
