Chinese Satellite Reportedly Tracks U.S. Carrier Group Operating Near Iranian Coast
Reports emerging on June 24 indicate that Chinese military surveillance satellites have detected and tracked the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group (CSG-3) operating in the Gulf of Oman, relatively close to Iran’s southeastern coastline.
According to the reports, the USS Abraham Lincoln was observed approximately 88 nautical miles (163 kilometers) from the Iranian port of Chabahar, highlighting the continued U.S. naval presence near the strategically important waters surrounding Iran.
The carrier strike group is reportedly accompanied by at least three Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, which have moved into international waters near Iran amid ongoing regional tensions.
Satellite imagery circulating online allegedly shows increased flight-deck activity aboard the carrier, including preparations involving F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter aircraft. Some reports have also claimed the presence of F-15 aircraft operating in conjunction with U.S. forces in the region.
Neither the U.S. Navy nor Chinese authorities have publicly commented on the reported satellite observations.
The deployment underscores the continued strategic importance of the Gulf of Oman and the broader Middle East, where U.S. naval forces maintain a persistent presence amid evolving regional security challenges.
