The critical thinking question is this: why does Argentina seem willing to die for Messi, while Portugal does not show the same level of devotion to Ronaldo?
Why is Messi, despite having such extraordinary statistics and achievements, widely regarded as humble rather than narcissistic?
Sometimes the answer is not found in just goals, trophies, or awards, but in how people connect with a person. Therein lies your answer.
Messi has more awards than Ronaldo. Statistically, that is inarguable. Once people start arguing against the statistics themselves, it is usually a sign that the debate has become emotional rather than factual.
Messi is now the greatest World Cup goalscorer of all time, yet some people will still argue against the evidence. It reminds me of Zimbabwean personality cult supporters.
No matter what the facts, numbers, achievements, or results say, loyalty to an individual becomes more important than reality. That is when debate stops being about evidence and starts becoming an act of faith.
