Trump Says U.S. Will Seek Return of Military Equipment Left Behind in Afghanistan
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will soon attempt to recover military weapons and equipment left behind after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Trump accused the Biden administration of leaving behind large amounts of U.S. military hardware during the 2021 withdrawal, claiming that the abandoned equipment was worth billions of dollars. He said he plans to take action to bring the equipment back
Reports have estimated the value of the military equipment left in Afghanistan at around $7 billion, including vehicles, aircraft, weapons, and other supplies transferred to Afghan security forces before the Taliban takeover.
Trump previously called on the Taliban to return the equipment, but Taliban officials responded that the U.S. should come and retrieve it if it wanted it back.
The issue remains a major point of political debate in Washington, with critics and supporters divided over the consequences of the Afghanistan withdrawal and the fate of the abandoned military assets.
