NJOMBO TAKES CONTROL OF LUSAKA MAYORAL ADOPTION RA

Rev. William Njombo has emerged as the overwhelming favourite in the UPND Lusaka Mayoral adoption primaries after recording a landslide performance across the capital’s constituencies and wards.
According to verified results from party structures, Rev. Njombo dominated the race by finishing first in 9 out of Lusaka’s 10 constituencies and securing victory in 34 of the city’s 38 wards — a commanding performance that firmly positions him as the preferred choice among grassroots members.
The results contradict circulating claims suggesting that outgoing Lusaka Deputy Mayor Ketty Nanyangwe had won the adoption race.
Ms. Nanyangwe finished second overall after managing to secure victory in only 1 constituency and 4 wards, placing her in the “best loser” position ahead of fellow aspirant Chitambala Mwewa, who failed to win in any constituency or ward.
Party insiders have since dismissed reports declaring Nanyangwe victorious, describing them as misleading and intended to create confusion among party supporters.
Supporters of Rev. Njombo say the outcome reflects growing confidence in his leadership, grassroots mobilisation strength, and long-standing involvement in party structures through the Religious Affairs Committee.
They further argue that his strong showing demonstrates broad support for his vision and alignment with the development agenda being championed by President Hakainde Hichilema.
The adoption process forms part of the UPND’s internal preparations ahead of Zambia’s 2026 General Elections, where the ruling party is expected to field candidates for both parliamentary and local government positions.
