Zambia’s Copper Queens to Face New Zealand in Pre-Olympic Friendly

Lusaka, Zambia – The Zambian national women’s soccer team, the Copper Queens, will travel to Lyon, France this weekend to face off against New Zealand in a highly-anticipated friendly match on July 13, 2024. This match serves as part of the Copper Queens’ preparations for the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics, where they will be representing the nation.

The friendly against the Football Ferns of New Zealand is an important test for the Copper Queens as they look to fine-tune their skills and strategies ahead of the Olympic tournament. It will provide valuable experience playing against high-caliber international opposition.

“We are excited for this opportunity to compete against New Zealand,” said Copper Queens head coach Bruce Mwape. “It is the type of match that will really challenge our players and help us identify areas we need to improve on before the Olympics. Our goal is to make Zambia proud in Paris this year.”

The Copper Queens will depart Zambia this weekend to begin their training camp in France ahead of the July 13 fixture. This will allow the team adequate time to acclimatize to the European conditions and continue their meticulous preparations.

Zambia qualified for the 2024 Olympics by eliminating the Morocco and Ghana in the process.They will be making their second appearance at the Games, having debuted at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
