ZAM QUESTIONS THE MOVE TO SUSPEND 4 MUSICIANS TO PERFORM AT THE COMMERCIAL SHOW.
By Mercy Mulenga.
Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM), President Brian Bwembya, has questioned the move to suspend four musicians’ access to perform at the Agriculture and Commercial show in Serenje and other lined up government programs.
The suspended musicians include Rich Bizzy, Shenky Sugar, Khadafi and Chester, due to their performance at the recently held political rally for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) in Kitwe and Kabwe districts respectively.
Speaking in an interview with YAR FM News, Mr. Bwembya, described the move as unfortunate considering that the four musicians are Zambians who should not be judged based on their political alignment.
He further questioned why the named musicians are facing discrimination for performing at an opposition political
while other musicians are not castigated for performing at the ruling party events, a sad development he said violates the rights of belonging.
Mr. Bwembya, emphasized that music is a business that should not be dragged by any individual or organisations regardless of their political affiliation.
He further alleged that the move is believed to have been championed by some District Commissioners whom he said will be engaged to resolve the issue, further calling for the need to differentiate political and national events
He has since reaffirmed commitment towards ensuring that ZAM members are accorded equal opportunities without being punished for their democratic rights.
