WYNTER KABIMBA CALLS FOR TANGIBLE STEPS IN INTER-PARTY DIALOGUE EFFORTS
By Nelson Zulu
Former Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has emphasized the importance of inter-party dialogue for fostering national unity but cautioned that achieving it will be challenging due to the current lack of mutual respect in Zambian politics.
His remarks come in the wake of President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent call for dialogue with the opposition during the funeral service of the Forum for Democracy and Development-FDD leader Edith Nawakwi.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Kabimba has acknowledged the President’s willingness to dialogue but questioned what tangible steps have been taken to follow through on previous commitments.
He notes that the absence of issue based politics and the dominance of personal attacks and divisive rhetoric has long hindered meaningful engagement between political parties.
Mr. Kabimba however remains hopeful, suggesting that clear goals and a well-defined dialogue framework could encourage wider participation.
He has also warned that without transparency, some stakeholders may be unwilling to engage sincerely, but stressed that genuine dialogue remains essential for restoring unity and advancing national development
