Why Pitso is not hired in Europe
South African coach Pitso Mosimane recently expressed the challenges of coaching in Europe as an African coach and Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has weighed in on the matter.
Mosimane broke new ground in 2020 in his career after becoming the first Sub-Saharan coach to be in charge of Al Ahly and also ventured in uncharted territory for an African coach, after landing jobs in the Middle East, firstly in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli Saudi and in United Arab Emirates at Al Wahda.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor is currently without a club after parting ways with Al Wahda and although he is open to coaching anywhere in the world, Mosimane
suggested that there is still a stigma around african coaches in Europe.
Broos has admitted that Mokwena is good enough to coach in Europe but hopes that the Mamelodi Sundowns manager and Mosimane get a UEFA Pro license, the highest and worldly recognized coaching qualification in football, which will give them better chances of coaching in Europe.
“I think this is a guy (Mokwena) full of football from his foot to his head,” Broos said on PrimeSportsWithMahlatse YouTube

“I think he’s a guy who learns, who
reads many things about football. contacts coaches to talk about football, he wants to progress in his profession.”
“I hope for him as soon as possible he
gets the UEFA Pro License and that he
gets a chance (in Europe).
“What I see now from him I think he
can make it.
“Why not? I was a little bit surprised that Pitso said in Europe they don’t want African coaches, it’s not about that, it’s about your license and if you don’t have the UEFA Pro license you don’t enter into Europe as a coach.
Mosimane became the first South African coach to graduate with a CAF Pro License last year, the highest qualification in African football, which is reportedly equivalent to a UEFA Pro License and makes him eligible to coach anywhere in the world.
