WHY NEVERS MUMBA WASN’T PICKED AS RUNNING MATE(OPINION)
Reports suggest that Nevers Mumba was meant to be HH’s running and replace VP Nalumango. If this is true, here is what this decision means.
1. It is a statement that the same UPND Presidential candidate appearing on the ballot will also stand in 2031.
2. Based on what happened in Kenya and Malawi, it is very clear that appointing a running mate who has presidential ambitions is suicidal.
3. Ba Nevers Sekwila Mumba has a very big ego which can’t be controlled when given constitution protection. Giving him constitutional powers would have resulted in having two Presidents. This thought scared life out of UPND.
6. Running mate in a final term is equivalent to a successor. Appointing Nevers could have sent a wrong message to UPND strongholds.
7. VP Nalumango seem to have no ambitions other than wearing Cinderella dresses. She fits in the puzzle of extending presidential terms.
8. Appointing Nevers Sekwila Mumba would have pressured UPND to abandon
term limits as well as the third term bid.
9. Nevers Praise singer Mumba is not trusted. He can be used to run an agenda but never brought close so he is given excessive power.
