Why has a Mayoral seat become more complex to tabulate than “even” the Presidential Seat?
We watching from Gate D of the terraces.
For those too young, Gate D was the “real people’s” section of Independence Stadium before we built Heroes Stadium. At Gate D, patriotic Zambians, cheered, shouted, danced to drum beat in deafening sound to motivate the Zambia National Team against the opponent. Its was difficult to beat Zambia at Independence Stadium.
Stadium was always packed to the brim. Despite being in Stadium to watch game live, we also carried radios to listen to the distinguished Dennis Liwewe’s radio commentary as we never sought to miss his acclaimed “Its A Goal!!!!”
scream whenever Zambia scored because of the deafening noise in the stadium, the whole Zambia got to the electric moments as Liwewe would sometimes pause and allow his microphone to pick and transmit the cheering in the stadium to the rest of the country.
The atmosphere was always electric and you needed to be at the stadium as early as we go for voting if you wanted to be guaranteed a seat. We hugged, shook hands and shared popcorn even with the next fan around you even if you didn’t know them.
Why am I narrating all this? In his unequivocal loyalty to Zambia, the late Dennis Liwewe (MHSRIEP) still told Zambians the truth on what was happening on the field of play.
