UGANDA JUST UNVEILED A STATUE OF AN ISRAELI SOLDIER AT ENTEBBE AND TRAORE’S WORDS HAVE NEVER RUNG TRUER
Uganda has unveiled a statue honoring Lt. Col. Yoni Netanyahu at Entebbe Airport, 50 years after he was killed leading Israel’s hostage rescue operation.
Uganda’s military chief called his leadership and sacrifice an enduring symbol of courage, duty and selfless service.
This is the same Entebbe Airport where Israeli commandos landed in 1976 to rescue hostages from a hijacked Air France plane. They killed Ugandan soldiers stationed there. They destroyed Ugandan military aircraft. They violated Ugandan sovereignty and the country did nothing.
Now Uganda has erected a statue to honour the man who led that operation.
Captain Ibrahim Traore recently warned that some Africans suffer from Stockholm syndrome. They defend their former colonisers and foreign powers while attacking their own people.
Uganda has been a strong ally of Israel for decades. They collaborate on security, trade, and agriculture. Israel treats Uganda as a strategic partner in East Africa. Now Uganda is immortalising the man who led a raid that killed Ugandan soldiers on Ugandan soil.
This is not about who Yoni Netanyahu was. This is about what Uganda has become. A country that builds monuments to foreign soldiers who killed its own.
