U17 GIRLS IN K5, 000 WINNING BONUS

Government, through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts has awarded a K5, 000 winning bonus to the U17 Women’s National squad that played against Morocco on Saturday, 8th June, 2024.

The team played their 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final round 1st leg qualifier match against the Atlas Lionesses at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

The Copper Princesses found the back of the net 3 times through Green Buffaloes striker, Namute Chileshe and pushed the team to a 3-1 win over Morocco in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Morocco pulled one back in the 37th minute through Azraf Kautar.

Sports Minister, Elvis Nkandu says even though the Ministry does not have a heavy hand in developmental sport, the Ministry will still go out of its way and offer a bonus of K5, 000 to each player.

He says this is a motivation to both the players to work harder and also to government that their investment is paying off.

He was speaking to the girls in the dressing room shortly after the final whistle.

Team Captain, Zangose Zulu, who plays for Pataaka FC, has urged government to continue supporting the team.

She has assured the delivery of good results as the team plays the return leg in Morocco on 15th June, 2024.

Winner over both legs will qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be staged in the Dominican Republic.
